Spiritual Direction
What is Spiritual Direction/Spiritual Companioning?
Spiritual Direction, also known as Spiritual Companioning, is a centuries-old Christian practice where one person (called a spiritual director) prayerfully listens and helps another (the directee) become more aware of God’s presence, guidance, and activity in their life.
It’s not counselling, teaching, or giving advice. Instead, the focus is on listening deeply, together, with the Holy Spirit who is present and actively at work. The director’s role is to create a gentle, safe space where the directee can explore their spiritual journey, ask questions, share struggles, and grow in their relationship with God.
People come to Spiritual Direction for many reasons. Some are seeking clarity in a time of decision. Others want to deepen their prayer life, process a spiritual experience, or simply find God in everyday life. Whatever the reason, the practice invites people to slow down, reflect, and notice where God might be drawing them.
Sessions often include silence, prayer, conversation, and discernment. A director may occasionally ask questions or offer a reflection, but the heart of the time is listening—with compassion and without judgment.
Spiritual Direction is for anyone—whether you’ve been following Jesus for many years or are just beginning to seek Him. It’s a way of staying grounded in God’s love and truth in the midst of real life. It’s a sacred conversation that honours your story and helps you see how your life and God’s love are deeply connected.
